The South Carolina Department of Archives and History has a great blog entry this week on the 60th anniversary of the Briggs v. Elliott case: http://scdah.blogspot.com/2011/06/briggs-v-elliott.html. The case from Clarendon County was one of five cases consolidated before the United States Supreme Court into Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka that lead to the desegregation of schools. The blog post also links to several lesson plans that can be used in the classroom to teach this influential landmark court case.
