Christopher Gadsden

(1724-1805) Christopher Gadsden was a Charleston merchant who was a vocal advocate of American independence in South Carolina. Christopher Gadsden designed what is now known as the Gadsden flag, a yellow flag with a rattlesnake and legend “Don’t tread on me.”
